Trip Description & Itinerary

Your 5-day adventure begins at the Kigali Rwanda where we will be met by our guides and transferred to Mount Gahinga Lodge in Uganda. In the evening we will have a welcome dinner and experience the Batwa culture through a presentation of dance and local traditions. The following day we will set off into rainforest with our expert trackers and hike for 3-8 hours to find a family of Gorillas that have been habituated to human presence. We will then sit with these incredible animals for an experience that is said to be nothing less than life changing. The next day we will have the opportunity to track Golden Monkeys, another rare primate species that only exists in the border region of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. Characterized by their bright golden body, cheeks and tail, with black limbs, crown and tail end, these playful primates are a pleasure to watch. The following day you then have the opportunity to take another trek to visit with the Mountain Gorillas (extra cost), or take a hike up a volcano, go birding, visit the Batwa vocational school, or just sit and relax at the lodge and allow the staff to care for your every need, which includes a complimentary massage. On our last day we will drive back to Kigali, Rwanda and depending on flight times either have an opportunity to visit the grave of pioneer primatologist Dian Fossey and visit the gorilla cemetery or tour the Rwanda Genocide Memorial in Kigali.

Our stay will be at the Mount Gahinga Lodge (rated by Conde Nast as one of Africa’s best lodges) where you will be assigned a personal butler who will look after your every need from start to finish. Nestled at in the southern corner of Uganda, Mount Gahinga Lodge is a stunning luxury adventure lodge with incredible 360 degree views of the Virunga Volcanos. Its rustic charm is inspired by traditional design and building techniques. The luxury bandas reflect the magic of the aesthetic traditions of the Bufimbira people, with their distinct colours. Each Banda has an ensuite luxury shower room, fireplace and private porch. The lodge will serve as our base to experience this unique part of Africa where we will have the opportunity to go gorilla tracking, track the rare golden monkey, climb a volcano, walk through local villages and most of all to share the culture of the Batwa pygmies, the oldest inhabitants of the Central African rain forest.

We will arrive in Kigali Rwanda for a 1-night stay at a first class hotel, and spend the day touring the city visiting the Rwanda Genocide Memorial.  The following morning we will be picked up via private Land Rover and transferred to Mount Gahinga Lodge in Rwanda.  The drive and border crossing will take about 4-hours.

We will be well taken care of the entire trip by our personal butlers who will look after every need during our stay at the luxurious Mount Gahinga Lodge.  Guides will provide detailed instructions for our Gorilla & Monkey tracking excursions, and there is complete safety as the families we are tracking have been habituated to human presence.

Logistics will be handled throughout as we travel through southern Uganda, and then via our return to Rwanda for our departure home.
